Our First Shared Writing Story

This story was written during our shared writing time. I modeled how to begin writing a story by just telling it to someone out loud and organizing your ideas. We then began writing and because they knew the story about my family vacation to Disneyworld, we all contributed to the writing process. This took about 5 lessons, about 30 minutes a piece to write. During the editing process, we shared ideas of how to find more exciting words to use in our story. Believe it or not, they wrote this entirely with me! Enjoy!

Flames Over Disneyworld

During the summer of my seventeenth year, my family and I finally got to take our dream vacation to Disneyworld in Orlando, Florida. My tummy was full of excitement when we left our house at 4am to make the long journey to Florida. When we finally arrived, I couldn't believe my eyes. Our hotel was called the Polynesian Resort and it looked like a tropical island. My fantasy trip was coming true.

My brother, sister and I decided to go to Epcot Center first and ride Space Mountain. What a ride! It left us feeling dizzy and speechless. We continued onto the different foreign countries and had a blast! My parents wanted to save money and so we had to go back to our hotel for dinner. As a treat, they decided to make hamburgers on their indoor electric grill in our room. It started out fine; the burgers were sizzling and smelled delicious. I couldn't wait to bite into my juicy burger! Suddenly, the flames started to get higher and smoke began billowing throughout the room. Next, the smoke alarm was screaming and could be heard down the hall. My mom started panicking and yelled at us to hurry and help! Quickly, we all grabbed towels and were fanning them trying to clear the smoky air. My dad was sure that hotel security would come and kick us out of the hotel. We finally got the alarm to stop and then we waited for our eviction. To our surprise, no one came!

We held our breath, for what seemed like ten minutes, waiting for the worst. Still, no one came and we began thinking we were home free. The best part was that our burgers, while a little overdone, were edible and we chowed down. We stuck to cold sandwiches for the rest of the trip, just to be on the safe side.

The next day we went to Magic Kingdom and had the most fun day! We watched the fantastic parade and even got to eat with Snow White and her Seven Dwarfs. All in all, it was our best family vacation. We still laugh together about that day and the craziness of that hilarious memory.
