Foux's Footprints

HOWDY! NEWS! NEWS!
Newsletter for the Week of November 14-18, 2011
FIELD TRIP
I hope you enjoyed the pictures of our field trip! Thank you to all the chaperons who braved the rain, the walk and the bats!
WRITING
This week we will select one of our procedural writings and take it through the publishing process. We will learn new punctuation that can be included in our How-To writing (parenthesis, colon and commas). As we finish, we will add our books to the class library!
SPELLING
This week we will work on ending consonant blends. Your child will get their list on Monday and the test will be on Friday.
READING
Daily 5 will continue as well as our reading groups. We will continue to read for the purpose of researching butterflies. Last week, we learned that a fiction book on butterflies can be fun and enjoyable, but for the purpose of research we need to stick with non-fiction and the facts. The children will use many resources to research the topic as a class. We will continue to add to our research chart throughout the week with information we gather.
MATH
This week we are reviewing our word problem strategies (crossing out the junk, underlining the question and circling important numbers). We will be using games (board, dice and card) and competing against our classmates and even the teacher. Our goal is to quicken our recall time and effectively use numerous strategies to solve each problem.
SCIENCE
We are continuing our study on rocks! We will go on a class nature walk and collect samples of different rocks on the trail. As good scientists do, we will keep a rock booklet identifying and classifying our rocks according to their size, shape, texture, weight, and color. Using our adjectives and comparative skills, we will play 'Who Am I?" with the rocks and descriptions given by each student. If your child has a rock collection they would like share they can bring it any day this week.
