HOWDY! NEWS! NEWS!
Newsletter for the Week of December 5-9, 2011
Writing
This week we will continue working on our "All About" books. The kids are experts on so many neat things from "taking care of a horse" to "picking the perfect hairstyle". It is really neat to see how they are using different types of writing to share their knowledge. We will edit and then get to share our books with the class later in the week.
Spelling
We will continue our spelling this week with words that have inflectional endings (-ng and -nk). A list of your child's words will come home in their communication folder on Monday and the spelling test will be on Friday.
Reading
Your kids have loved being detectives and figuring out examples of sensory language in the stories we've read this week. We will continue to develop this skill by reading more great stories such as Owl Moon and The Ghost-Eye Tree. We will also rotate through the Daily 5 stations and work on reading in groups.
Math
This week we have some neat games and activities to continue learning about 2-digit addition and subtraction without regrouping ("borrowing"/"carrying"). We will have a fun Jeopardy review on Thursday and then an assessment on Friday.
Social Studies
We will focus on rights and responsibilities in our community. We will begin discussing what a good citizen is and learn about some historical figures such as Paul Revere and George Washington Carver. We will be studying even more historical figures next week.
Winter Party
Our Holiday Winter Party is being planned. Our fearless room mothers will be contacting you soon with all the fun details!
